Many homeowners are faced with the decision to replace this defective and deteriorating siding. There are many choices for replacement siding and they all have their merits. One of the most popular and well-known of these solutions are James Hardi® products, called Hardiplank and Hardisiding. Hardi sidings are manufactured with a concrete base, giving them a tough and durable finish, designed to last virtually forever. Hardi products are available in a lap siding format or large sheets, providing many different looks. Hardi still requires painting but it’s a great product.

While not as popular, vinyl siding has been around for many years. This product also provides a lifetime of maintenance-free use and it never requires painting. Vinyl siding is not for every job but considering that the cost of painting can be totally eliminated, it’s a great product for many homes.

The last type of product is relatively new, called Smart Panel Siding and Smart Panel lap siding. This relative newcomer is made my Louisiana Pacific. It’s similar in looks to the Hardi products but much lighter and easier to install. It still requires painting but like Hardi, and it also comes with a limited lifetime warranty.
