LOW-E COATINGS
Low-E coatings reduce the amount of solar radiation that passes through the glass. At Ringer Windows in Austin, we proudly use Cardinal Glass in our windows. Low-E glass contains two to three layers of silver nitrate that’s molecularly bonded to the glass during the manufacturing process. It’s micro-thin but it’s what makes a Ringer Window so efficient. We place our Low-E coatings on the inside portion of our hermetically sealed glass units so once the double panes are sealed, the Low-E is inside our airtight chamber.
Summer - Keeps damaging UV and heat out

SPECIALTY GLASS OPTIONS

neat glass - self cleaning   Neat - Self Cleaning Glass
Neat Glass from Cardinal has often been called “self cleaning” by some people in the window industry.  While nothing is totally self-cleaning, Cardinals NEAT glass is about as close as anyone has come! Ultra thin layers of titanium and silicon dioxides are molecularly bonded to the glass. It all starts with the sun. The titanium dioxide layer of Neat glass reacts chemically with the suns UV rays and causes organic materials on the glass to decompose. (It works even on cloudy days) The silicon dioxide makes Neat glass exceptionally smooth and super-hydrophobic as shown in the illustration. This allows natural rainwater to disperse and “sheet off”, evaporating quickly, leaving the window with virtually no spots. Click on the Cardinal link to see Neat in action!

laminated glass   Laminated - Hurricane Resistant / Security Glass

laminated break

Laminated glass contains a plastic interlayer between two pieces of flat glass. Laminated glass is very clear, exceptionally strong, and substantially reduces sound transmissions. Some types of Lamiglass are so tough that they’re used in bullet-resistant applications! Residentially, Lamiglass is often used as security glazing. Cardinals laminated glass resists object penetration and it’s meets many forced entry requirements. It’s commonly used in coastal settings as hurricane resistant glass. For safety, security, and sound control, there’s not much better than Cardinal Laminated Glass!

temper safety glass   Tempered - Safety Glass

Tempered glass, often called safety glass, is used in setting where required by code or for a specific safety purpose. When shattered, tempered glass breaks into very small “roundish type” pieces unlike regular annealed glass that turns to slivers and sharp shards. Tempered glass is required around doors, bathtubs, and where glass is close to the floor. Tempered glass looks no different than regular annealed glass but the tempering process makes it more expensive.

preserve - temporary protective coating   Preserve - Temporary Protective Coating
Preserve is a removable protective film that’s applied to the glass during manufacture. Preserve is a clear polyethylene film that protects the glass, especially during construction, painting and sheetrock work. Simply peel it off when ready and dispose of normally. Preserve is a water based acrylic adhesive and is approved for normal waste disposal.
